The League of Women Voters in Marietta, Georgia. and the YWCA of North Georgia partnered to create the inaugural Women's History Month Celebration of Cobb County, GA., on March 14, 2009, "Celebrating History Through Her Story." The event honored the courage and determination of women’s efforts
to improve women’s rights and quality of life, with its first annual theme, "Women 'Firsts' of Cobb County."

Victoria Chastain - First Woman Elected to Marietta City Council & First Female Mayor of Marietta
Lynda Coker - First Female State Representative
Alisha Thomas Morgan - First African American Female State Representative
Dorothy Robinson - First Female Cobb Superior Court Judge
Barbara Williams - First Female Cobb County Commissioner
Moderator: Betty Siegel - First Female Georgia University President & First Female President of Cobb Chamber of Commerce
Karen Pressley served on the planning committee as a communication specialist. She acquired publicity, wrote the speakers' biographies, and wrote and designed the event program and event flier. Karen also wrote the event script, and served as stage director of the event held at Chattahoochee Technical College, Marietta, GA. Karen continues to serve on the 2010 planning committee for the second annual event.
The City of Marietta and the commissioners of Cobb County designated March as "Women's History Month" as a result of the 2009 event.
